Becoming a Firefighter

Heading

There are two ways to become a Firefighter.  Gloucester City is a combination department. We have full-time career Firefighters and volunteers.  Follow the directions below for which ever track you think best fits your ambitions.

The Gloucester City Fire department is recruiting volunteer Firefighters.  If you think you maybe interested in serving your community, this is your opportunity.  Firefighting is not for everyone, but if you have what it takes, we need your help.  The firefighting force in our City has declined in recent years, but still remains as a significant component of our ability to protect lives and property.

If you would like to learn more, you can contact the office of the Chief at 1 North King Street any day from Monday to Friday during normal business hours or by calling (856) 456-2652.

Career Firefighters in Gloucester City are hired through the New Jersey Department of Personnel.  Applications can be obtained at Fire Headquarters, the Municipal Building, Public Library and through the DOP web site.  Applications are only available when the City requests a hiring list.  Candidates must pass the testing process according to DOP rules and regulations, be a City resident, be certified as an EMT and must have a current driver’s license.
