FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Station 54 Receives Makeover
Nicholson Road station looks
like new...
Fall 2008 -- Work is
completed at the Nicholson Road station. In 2008, the City assumed
ownership of the Gloucester Heights fire station. With the use of grant money,
the building underwent a major renovation. What was once the old bingo hall has
become a senior center. This section of the building is occupied daily by our
senior citizens. They now have a place to socialize, have lunch and be active
with others. This can also serve as an emergency evacuation center during
emergency situations.
The fire station was
redesigned to focus on the needs of the department. This new section of the
building includes a meeting/training area and office space. The new second
floor has a duty room where members can gather. This space is equipped with a
small kitchen area.
The buildings exterior is
a neighborhood improvement. The front looks like new construction. The use of
stucco, new widows and doors gives the building a sharp clean look. There is
suitable parking on the side including handicap spaces. The building is also
equipped with an emergency generator that operates when power is lost due to
storms or other conditions.
“A big improvement for the department, the
neighborhood and the City!”
